The Beta Theta House Corporaton Mission Statement

MISSION: The Beta Theta house corporation exists to promote our chapter brotherhood; and, to protect and preserve our chapter assets.

Delta Theta brothers are very fortunate to have an active Beta Theta house corporation to support our chapter. In 2007, we  moved into the best fraternity home on campus. It is in a premier location across from Bryant-Denny stadium main entrance and the walk of champions. On ball game week-ends we can stand on our portico and have a birdseye view of the team unloading to go to the game. Our home was realized because our graduate members and house corporation designed and supervised the consturction of our new home to make our vision come true.

Your Beta Theta house corporation is dedicated to the Delta Theta brothers that have made our progress possible. When the graduate Delta Theta brothers come back to our campus home they experience that special brotherhood that lives here. Our graduate brothers set the standard for our undergraduate Delta Theta Brothers to follow. We have accomplished much in a few years, and have much more to accomplish.

We succeed because we intend to.

Governance information: From the General Fraternity

As a follow up to our conversation, I wanted to send along the following thoughts in relation to self-governance within the Fraternity. As we discussed, the Fraternity was designed to be a model of shared governance between our undergraduate chapters, our General Fraternity officers and advisors and our Board of Trustees. As an example, the Code provides that our undergraduate brothers have the supreme authority to govern the affairs of the Fraternity when Convention is in session, but that the Trustees govern the Fraternity throughout the duration of the year.

Our chapter members have authority over their conduct and membership unless they demonstrate an inability to use that authority in a way that is safe and aligned with our values. While our brothers often exemplify self-governance, some examples of where chapters struggle include dangerous or demeaning pledge education activities, abuse of alcohol or drugs and creation of an environment that fosters sexual misconduct. We have a supporting structure of advisors, District Chiefs and Regional Chiefs who have the responsibility for stepping in if the chapter leadership struggles to implement self-governance. Through the authority vested in the District Chief, chapter activities can be suspended or guided to a better path. Advisors and alumni have an obligation to work with the chapter and the District Chief to identify when and if an intervention is necessary. It is the role of the District Chief to use his best judgment related to a corrective course for the chapter if there are concerns.

I appreciate the tremendous dedication that you and your fellow-advisors have shown the Delta Theta chapter. There is no finish line in our Fraternity. The lessons that we are taught must be continually passed down to our future generations of brothers – every year, every semester. Thank you for taking on that task.

Yours in __kai__,

Jeff
